임지찬은 회화, 영상, 퍼포먼스를 넘나들며 작업한다. 그는 배우 시절 몸과 목소리에 축적된 시간을 작업의 주된 재료로 삼아 자신만의 예술 세계를 펼치고 있다. 감정을 내면에 고인 것이 아닌 외부와의 관계 속에서 발생하는 사건으로 인식하며, 신체와 물질, 언어와 침묵 사이의 경계에서 작업한다. 호흡이 붓질을 결정하고 안료가 자율적 상대로 반응하는 과정 속에서, 몰입과 거리두기를 반복하며 언어로 규정할 수 없는 감각을 화면 위에 기록한다. 작업은 특정한 결론보다 질문을 이어가는 수행의 과정에 가깝다. 현재 세종대학교 대학원 회화과에 재학 중이며, 한국예술종합학교 연극원 연기과를 졸업했다.

IM JICHAN works across painting, video, and performance. He draws on the time accumulated in his body and voice during his years as an actor, making it the primary material of his practice. He approaches emotion not as something stored within, but as an event that emerges through relationships with the outside world, working at the boundary between body and material, language and silence. In a process where breath determines each brushstroke and pigment responds as an autonomous partner, he moves between immersion and distance, recording on the canvas sensations that resist definition in language. His practice is closer to a performative process of continuing to ask questions than to arriving at any particular conclusion. Currently enrolled in the MFA program in Painting at Sejong University, and a graduate of the Korea National University of Arts, School of Drama (Acting).
